Ishan Kishan got a chance to debut in the very first match of the three-match ODI series being played between India and Sri Lanka. This player received the ODI cap on his birthday, which made the occasion even more special. But his birthday became even more special as he started his debut innings in a strong manner, which all the fans enjoyed seeing.

Chasing the target of 263, Team India got the first blow in the form of Prithvi Shaw in the sixth over. Ishan was sent to bat at number three. The young man started his career with a six on the very first ball. He hit a four on the second ball. Shooting around the Premadasa Stadium, Ishan Kishan scored a brilliant half-century in his very first ODI. Ishan scored 59 runs in 42 balls which included 8 fours and 2 sixes.

Coming to start his ODI career, Ishan went ahead and hit Dhananjaya for a strong six on the very first ball and with this he got his name recorded in the pages of history. Earlier, no Indian batsman had started his ODI career with a six. Yes, of course, Suryakumar Yadav had started his career by hitting a six in T20. Not only this, Ishan has become the second Indian cricketer to make his Odia debut on his birthday. The Indian cricketer to debut on his birthday before wicket-keeper batsman Ishan was Gursharan Singh.

Ishaan was born on 18 July 1998 in Patna and has so far scored 60 runs in two T20 Internationals which includes one fifty. He scored 56 runs in his debut match itself and was adjudged man of the match. That is, he has shown amazing not only in Odisha but also in T20 debut. Ishan has been the captain of the team, the coach was Rahul Dravid at the time he was the captain of the team and now Rahul Dravid is present on the tour of Sri Lanka as a coach during his ODI debut from the senior team. However, Ishaan did not reach this far without a struggle. He was 12 years old when he had to leave Patna.

His coach told his parents that if Ishaan wants to play cricket further, he will have to shift to Ranchi and play for Jharkhand. Yes, the same Ranchi from where India’s World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is, this decision was not easy. But Ishaan had caught the insistence of going to Ranchi. He was also selected for the team of SAIL i.e. Steel Authority of India for the tournament of District Cricket Association, shifted to Ranchi. The cell gave him a quarter to live in. Little Ishaan did not know how to cook, so his job was to clean utensils and keep water full. When his father reached Ranchi, Ishaan’s neighbors told that he often sleeps on an empty stomach. The seniors living with him would often go out to play cricket at night and in such a situation, Ishaan would often fall asleep after drinking only chips and cold drinks.

His father says that this went on for about two years and he never told anything about it at home. After knowing all this, his father took a rented house in Ranchi where Ishaan and his mother started living. After this, at the age of 15, Ishan became a part of the Ranji team for Jharkhand. Then he worked harder and performed better. He joined the Under-19 team and also became the captain. In the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, India also reached the final under his leadership.
