Yashpal Sharma, a former Indian cricketer and part of the 1983 world winning team, is no more with us. The Indian team created history by winning the ODI World Cup for the first time in the year 1938. Under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, India defeated West Indies by 43 runs in the final played on June 25, 1983. In the first match played against West Indies in the World Cup, Yashpal Sharma played a brilliant innings of 89 runs in which Team India won. Apart from this, Yashpal Sharma had scored 61 runs in the semi-final also when India defeated England.

Yashpal Sharma made his debut against England on 2 August 1989 at Lord’s. He played his last test match against West Indies on 29 October 1983. Apart from this, he made his ODI debut against Pakistan on 13 October 1978 and played the last ODI against England on 27 January 1985. After the 1983 World Cup, Yashpal Sharma’s career started going downhill. Yashpal Sharma was dropped from the first Test team due to poor performance. After that he could not even make a comeback in ODIs but always remembered his 1983 World Cup team. Often used to say in interviews many times that he has a family in the team since 1987.
